administration relative to healthcare, insurance, labor union
administration and fringe benefits, operations, marketing, finance,
human resources, disaster recovery and Year 2000 compliance. Experience
covers a wide spectrum, ranging from highly technical information
systems and relational database client/server application development
to general business management and administration.
APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE
- For a major healthcare EDI company, designed and developed a
complex operations database to support marketing, sales, inventory,
deployment, customer service and accounting for the company's products,
maintaining essential data on more than 125,000 medical providers and
controlling a $6 million product inventory. Improved speed up to
tenfold over a previous system while instituting rigorous data- and
referential-integrity features. Achieved over 400% productivity
improvement for a critical phase of product deployment.
- Developed an application for group insurance clients to
use to complete monthly insurance reports more easily and accurately.
Receiving more accurate reports saved the northeast region about
$100,000/ year in reprocessing expenses and saved the average client
three to five man-hours per month in report preparation time. Designed
as a free customer service to the company's clients, the program was
recommended for national distribution in recognition of its
contribution to sales and retention. Developed a comprehensive user
manual.
- Designed and developed a field audit application used by
up to 30 examiners to gather information at remote locations of
business partners, compare it with midrange-resident data, and generate
reports substantiating large billings of those business partners.
Provided for post-audit archiving of all audits in a comprehensive
aggregate database.
- Created a collections monitoring, control and reporting
system for overdue insurance premiums which recovered $11 million in
the first 12 months of operation. Included a comprehensive user manual.
- Developed an application for production of group legal insurance claim payments.
- Designed an application for zip code matching of insured individuals with HMO affiliated physicians nationwide.
- Created numerous database applications to improve
administrative efficiency in such areas as personnel tracking, project
management, sales performance tracking, insurance premium rate status
monitoring, and express shipping cost control.
- Developed a tracking system to solve a problem of
badly delayed commission payments to the field sales force due to poor
communications between organizations.
- For a major insurance company wrote a hospital audit
reporting system for the PC to save 20% of expended effort per month
and improve response to marketing executives compared to its mainframe
predecessor. Auditor efficiencies helped achieve a 50% increase in
hospital audit savings over the first 12 months.
- Created a human resources database for a large
corporation's department-wide 550-manager group, for the purposes of
facilitating management development and rotation.
- Developed the first PC-based budget forecasting package for a major insurance company.
